This story takes us on a journey through cooking history - from the griddle on an open fire and the ‘beehive’ oven to the widely used, much loved and polished kitchen range and finally on to the microwave oven. Changing tastes and supplies of meat, fish and grain and the traditions of oatcakes, broth and bread are detailed with fond personal accounts from across the region. And of course, with that added extra ingredient home grown in the North East of England – dialect, stories, poems and humour throughout.
