The Poster to Poster series is a nine-volume definitive collection of British railway posters which showcases many of the railway posters from the National Railway Museum at York and other museums and galleries. Each volume is a mixture of travel documentary, geographical and historical study, graphic artists' reference and poster database - all interlinked using the central theme of railway posters
Volume 5 begins in Windsor, with its royal connections and famous castle. From there it is a short journey to London, where we are greeted with a veritable blizzard of railway art. Throughout the 20th century, hundreds of London posters were published, and many are seen together for the first time. The rest of the journey takes us through Southern Railway territory, to see the counties of Kent, Sussex, Surrey and Hampshire. Seaside and countryside images abound, such as the trio below, before we finish our artistic travels in Cowes and Ryde. Foreword is written by Sir William McAlpine.
